It was while I was having bath, listening to relaxing music, letting my mind wander when my eyes caught some of my day to day necklaces and bracelets and I went down memory lane, with a smile on my face.
All pieces are different, yet they all have something in common –
they remind me of places I have been to / lived in, of friends who gave them to me and therefore have a special meaning.
My main ‘go-to’ piece is the silver pendant with a buddha and mantra ring that I matched together. It is from our last trip to Bali before a very unexpected repatriation a few years back; when I felt as if everything is falling apart; reminding me to stand tall and balanced. The necklace that I added later, bought in Sweden while we were there for my dad`s funeral, is always close to my heart.
A bracelet I received as a welcome gift from a dear friend at our repatriation to Germany. The main piece being like a yin-yang, with an uneven surface. It could not have fitted better during that time – and is still a valid thought in everyday life! I added a united heart charm to it, too, representing my family that means the world to me and as long we as are united we can weather the storms.
My black stone bought during our New Zealand vacation, meanwhile 10 years ago, is strong, smooth and mystifying. And a great reminder of my most favourite holiday location we had so far, too!
A silver-red sunlike pendant, reminding me of our first Australia holiday. A fun pick-me up piece, combined with a necklace from a friend who passed away when I was 24, never forgotten, and combined a reminder of his personality; a personality to strive for.
A very delicate yet strong bracelet given by a friend in Singapore when we left for the repatriation. A bitter sweet memory to stay strong and to see the small things around me.
And my Egypt bracelet with an Arabic poem engraved in it. A reminder of a time with its challenges, yet it turned out to be an absolutely great experience. If we manage to let go we can learn to embrace the good around us!
They are not just jewellery pieces, those pieces are much more – they can give me comfort, strength, joy and at times they help me to pick myself up again, drag me out of a low, help me to stay at ease.
They make me appreciate all the opportunities we took, reminders of joyful, fun, sad, hard and challenging moments we faced.
Our house is a mix of furniture from various locations but while they are hard to carry around these small pieces can and will follow me wherever I go. And I am looking forward to adding more special pieces to it!
Life is a journey, but let`s not forget all the small in-between steps we experience,
keep them close to your heart! After all they make us who we are!
Do you have any special reminders you keep close!?
Have a lovely day,
AK
